Saskatchewan recently announced its expansion of eligibility for workers in the province looking to apply for Canada PR visa.
As of this announcement, workers in intermediate and lower-skilled jobs in the province will be allowed to apply for permanent residency through the Existing Work Permit stream of the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP).
With this expansion, work permit holders from over 279 different occupations including truck drivers, farm labourers, retail sales staff, nurses’ aides and many more – will be eligible to apply for PR. Previously, only high-skilled immigrants (TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3) were eligible to apply for PR through this stream.
Who is Eligible to Apply?
To apply under this new SINP extended stream, applicants would need to meet both the general SINP and the stream-specific eligibility criteria. This majorly includes:
- An eligible Open Work Permit or Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) supported work permit.
- A valid job offer letter from a Saskatchewan employer
- Minimum 6 months (780 Hours) of full-time work experience in the same job provided in the offer letter
- Minimum Canadian Benchmark Level (CLB) score of at least 4 (TEER 4 or 5)
- An eligible licensure in Saskatchewan if your job is regulated
Who is Not Eligible to Apply?
Despite the Existing Work Permit stream eligibility expansion, it is important to note that certain applicants are still not eligible to immigrate to Saskatchewan under this stream:
- Food and Beverage servers
- Truck Drivers
- Health Professionals
- Graduates currently working on a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)
- Refugees
How to Apply?
Before applying, applicants must ensure that they obtained the following supporting documents:
- SINP Ethical Conduct Disclosure and Declaration form
- Birth certificate
- Passport
- Saskatchewan licensure (if applicable)
- Work experience
- Language test (if TEER 4 or 5)
- Job offer letter
- Work permit
- IMM-0008 Generic Application Form for Canada
- IMM-0008DEP Additional Dependents/Declaration (if applicable)
- Schedule A: Background/Declaration
- IMM-5406 Additional Family Information
- Applicants can have only one active profile with the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP).
Application Process
STEP 1: Create an online account on the SINP portal.
STEP 2: Complete all sections of the online application. Scan and upload completed forms and supporting documents in a PDF. Keep the originals for records.
STEP 3: Save and submit the application online. Pay the application processing fee.
STEP 4: Once the applicant submits their application, they will receive an email confirming that the SINP has received their application.
Based on the pre-screening and criteria assessment, the SINP will determine whether the applicant is eligible for nomination under the SINP. If approved, the SINP will send a nomination package which will include the nomination approval letter and information on how to proceed with the Canada PR visa application.
Applicants must submit this application within 6 months of being nominated by the SINP.
